In July 2026, Car and Driver tested wiper blades by using a garden hose on multiple settings to simulate light, medium, and heavy rain across intermittent, medium, and high wiper speeds for 30 seconds each, followed by a 30-second dry glass assessment. Although blades were evaluated on installation ease, water clearing across speeds, squeaking, vibration, streaking, adapter quality, and price, no products were ranked, meaning none placed on top. The models also tested were Rain-X Latitude 2-in-1 water repellent wiper blade, Bosch Aerotwin A863S, MICHELIN 13108 - Wiper blade set, Valeo Silencio Blade VF376, and Bosch 4816 - Beam.

In January 2018, Auto Express tested wiper blades on a five-star rating scale, assessing clean wiping, noise levels on a dry screen, ease of fitting, and price-based value. Bosch Aerotwin took first place as the only product to receive five stars. Michelin Stealth Hybrid finished second with four stars, while Valeo Silencio X.TRM Flat placed ninth with three stars.

Although Valeo includes clear instructions on how to install the blades, we found them quite tricky to get on with.

The remaining positions went to Trico ExactFit in fourth, Halfords FW15 in fifth, Champion Easyvision in sixth, Lucas Clearvision Direct Fit in seventh, and Valeo Silencio X.TRM Flat in eighth.

In May 2011, AUTO BILD published a GTÜ assessment of eight retrofit beam wiper blades, evaluating them across laboratory and practical environments for endurance runs and high-speed performance. Hella aero wiper took first place as the test winner, followed by VW Original in second and Bosch Aero Twin in third. Also tested were Valeo Silencio X-TRM and SWF Visioflex, which received recommended ratings, Champion Aerovantage, which was rated conditionally recommended, and Motgum and Car Point.

Bosch Super Plus took first place and earned the Best Buy designation, while Valeo Compact Revolution finished in second and Wiper Blades Universal Retrofit Flat Aero Blade placed third. In January 2010, AUTO&Wirtschaft reported on an ADAC test that examined wiper installation on a VW Golf IV and wiping quality at +20 °C and -8 °C, assessing the blades when new, during wear testing, and after artificial sun exposure. Bosch Aerotwin finished in first place as the test winner, followed by Visioflex in second, both Bosch Twin Spoiler and Silencio X-trm tied for third, and Champion-Aerovantage in fifth. Universal was also tested and received a rating of Sufficient without receiving a rank.

TruPart Universal, Champion Contact, Michelin, Halfords, Valeo Silencio, Valeo Compact, and Champion Aerovantage were also tested.

In August 2007, Auto Express assessed nine wiper blade sets on a 2001 VW Bora and a 2003 VW Golf to evaluate secure fit, arm construction, price, leftover residue, dry glass squeaking or juddering, and water removal at speeds reaching 70 mph. The report included no scores or rankings, so no product came out on top and no notable individual performances were recorded. The models also tested were Valeo Silencio X.TRM UM622 + UM664, Champion Aerovantage SX53 + X45, Bosch Aerotwin 928S, Halfords Flat Wiper blade set, Bosch Super Plus, Wipac Universal WSB21 + WX19, Valeo Silencio VM 106 + VM23, Drivemaster DMW 21 + DMW 19, and PIAA Super Silicone Wiper 8C + 11.

For conventional arms, the Valeo Silencio X.TRM should be your first choice, given that they are so versatile.

In October 2003, Posventa published an evaluation conducted by OCU that tested windshield wiper blades against diluted white paint, artificial rain, real rain, insect cleaning, and a 200-hour endurance test representing two years of use. No blades were ranked or scored, meaning no product placed on top. The models also tested were SWF Wiper Blade, Carrefour B7, Valeo Silencio Autoclic Standard U45, Bosch Twin 450, Trico Twin Pack, Norauto N45, Champion Serie X, Visiostar Traditional Range, Tudor 5, Consumer 450 mm, Feuvert No. 9, and Doga Range D.

In June 2003, AUTO BILD evaluated eleven pairs of 530 mm wiper blades across an endurance trial of 150,000 cycles to inspect installation, wipe pattern, endurance, noise, and wear. Because the test recorded no ranks or scores, no product placed on top and none were highlighted as notable. Products also tested were Aldi wiper blades, Dyna, Unitec blades, Valeo Silencio, Valeo Compact, Original spare part for a VW Golf IV, Standard, Bosch Twin, Aero Twin, and SWF DuoTec.

In 2002, Auto Express evaluated fourteen windshield wipers by assessing noise on wet and dry glass, wiping effectiveness at speeds up to 70 mph, installation ease, and price. Champion Twin VX45/X45 took first place as the test winner. Trico ExactFit E45C and Valeo Silencio VM45 were also tested.

The VM45 is new from this French maker but it retains the neat wear indicator which changes colour when exposed to UV light.

In a report published by WEB.DE with no date listed, ADAC tested five flat bar wipers and five traditional bracket wipers based on wiping quality and ease of installation. Twin Spoiler placed first as the test winner. Visioflex and Silencio X-trm were also tested, and both received a rating of good.

In an evaluation with no published date, Auto Express fitted 19-inch blades onto a Vauxhall vehicle to assess installation ease, wiping and noise on a wet windshield at 70 mph, and operation on a dry windshield until squealing occurred. TP TV480 finished in first place as a Best Buy, Champion X48 Aerovantage placed second as Recommended, and Valeo Silencio ended in third. Also tested without receiving a ranking were Wipac WX19, Trico ExactFit E48K + ES48DR, Cosmic Clearview CC19, Dyna, Bosch Super Plus 19/19S, Halfords Easy Fit Wiper Set, and Trico Teflon TEF480.

In third place, Valeo's Silencio produced good results and the wear indicator was useful. Again, though, the price for a pair was its downfall.
